Memorial Day

I woke up this morning feeling especially grateful for so many blessings. I have many memories of how I have spent Memorial Days in the past. One of them includes trips to Cokeville when I was younger, after my dad died, to see grandparents and family there and visit my dad's gravesite. These were emotional but much anticipated visits.
Other, later years I have memories of dreaded spring cleaning projects (but always followed by some fun  afternoon or evening activity) :) as well as fun family get-togethers. I think every year we were in Provo though, we made a trip up to the beautiful cemetery where my grandpa is buried. He served in Korean and Vietnam war as well as WWII and died when my mom was 11 years old.

I am so grateful for the service he gave and for the rights and freedoms he protected for us. I also have a brother-in-law, Kevin, who is a pilot in the Air Force and  is deployed frequently, leaving my sister and 3 kids while he protects our country. And my brother, David, is just starting as a lawyer in the Air Force.
Recently when I think of Memorial Day though, I remember it as the weekend Chris and I started dating- first kiss, spending time with each others' families, and being so excited about this cute, awesome guy I had found!
The next couple of years Chris and I had to work on Memorial Day, as he was selling, then installing, security systems in Illinois. There was always a goal to be met, an incentive for selling/installing, and an evening off with KFC barbeque, all thanks to Spencer.
This Memorial Day, Chris will be working at our house most of the day, getting it ready for us to move in over the next couple of days, and the kids and I will do laundry, pack some boxes, do some cleaning and head to Waldrons for swimming in the pool and a BBQ. (My brother-in-law and his wife will have precious memories of this day as they welcomed a sweet new baby into the world this morning- Yay!!)
Although I have celebrated Memorial Day in different ways over the years, each year I am able to focus on two huge blessings- family and freedom! We are so blessed!
Next to come: Our House!
